Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology, Coherence-Based Modeling of Cultural Change and Political Violence Project, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,416/Mon.

DUTIES: Writes specialized crawling software to locate, identify, analyze, and characterize virtual communities on the web starting from expert-identified seed sites and proceeding via social science theory-informed algorithms. Collaborates with Social Science personnel to incorporate social network, cultural, and rational choice models into crawling algorithms; to identify appropriate user inputs and outputs; and to design link and content analysis methods.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: PhD. from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or a related field. EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of experience in working on projects involving web mining and/or design of web crawlers. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Working knowledge in Java programming language. Ability to design and program software for web crawling. Ability to write scientific articles.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with social science theories and methods, particularly in social network theory, game theory, expected utility theory, and/or content analysis. Experience working in collaborative teams with social scientists.
