What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

If you can only think of one thing, that's OK too.

I am a computer engineer and ICS 314 is my first ICS class. However, 3 things that I can already see about being an ICS student are:

1) Team Collaboration, we will hone our communication and team skills through the various projects/assignments assigned in this class.

2) Time Management, we already know this class will take up a lot of time, that is why it will teach us to effectively manage our time in order for us to accomplish what we need to do in this class.

3) Professional Help, this is the first time that a class made me join online professional sites. I feel that joining LinkedIn and TechHui will help me in getting my name out in the world. Building this professional persona will be great for the future.

What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

1) A computer science program in Hawaii

2) EZ.java

The Three Good Things About Being an ICS Student

1. The ability to contribute to interesting projects with like minded individuals. Since I started in the ICS program in January 2017, I have been contributing to a programming language project to implement Scheme. This has been both an excellent learning opportunity as well as a chance to build up a professional network.

2. Resources like slack.com pages, ICSpace, and clubs such as Grey Hats provide ample opportunity to connect in peers and get involved in interesting work.

3. The courses are challenging and the usage of inverted classroom methodologies place the ownership and accountability for learning on the students, which I think is an important attitude to foster in aspiring software developers and engineers.

What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

1. Class availability. Most courses are offered every semester which helps students graduate in a timely manner.

2. Supportive and friendly professors and TA's.

3. Challenging coursework that helps students improve their problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Three good things about being a UH ICS student:

1. The ICS professors at UH Manoa are all very knowledgeable and genuinely want their students to succeed. Some classes may be more difficult than expected, but they'll certainly prepare you for the classes to come later.

2. ACM Manoa and Grey Hats lets you connect to your fellow ICS peers that aren't in your immediate classes.

3. The free software available to us through microsoft imagine.

  • Providing many connections which could help you in the long run, for examples meeting people at ICS space could lead to help with homework and maybe even job applications. Clubs help provide extra off campus experiences like grey hats and ACM.
  • Providing information about jobs and internships, which also come from slack and emails which is useful for getting experience in the field.
  • They also provide great answers for diverse questions, which help justify what is needed to be done, how, and more.

1.) Getting local companies involved is great. Seeing companies come in to hold some event and expose students to the representatives benefits for future employment and also to get a glimpse of what real work experience may look like.

2.) The faculty and staff have been very helpful both in advising me for my goals and also on the subject material. They are very inviting and will try to help you succeed without just laying out the answers to you. A student can feel comfortable that there is help when they need it.

3.) Having the ICS space is great to meet others who are going through the same course work as you. Its a good way to bounce off ideas and ask questions about future courses.

1. Its challenging and makes me work hard.

2. The many languages that you learn because I didn't know any languages before becoming an ICS major.

3. The way I look at technology and seeing how computer science fits into it. I have a new found appreciation for computers, video games, smart phones, etc. The ICS program has helped me find this new found appreciation

Good Things About the UH ICS Program:

1. Provides a good amount of programming experience.

2. Encourages cooperation.

3. Higher level ICS courses are available to Computer Engineering majors, giving us a chance to take courses that use a wider variety of programming languages.

1. I get to network with students that also share the same interests as me.

2. I find I can apply the skills I learn in class to side projects that I do for fun.

3. I enjoy downloading the student versions of expensive programs for free because I have a UH email.

It allows me to learn programming and other technology oriented skills in school
The faculty are all very enthusiastic about the program, and are great at teaching
It's Hawaii what's not to like?

1. the teachers I have had are all pretty good. they explain the content enough and you can always go ask for help after.

2. The ICS space is pretty cool as just a place to relax or work when you're waiting on your next class.

3. The advising has been great in pointing me in the right direction.
