Contractor Positions for Labels That Talk

Labels That Talk (LTT) is an early stage start up that is building a system for storing and playing back audio on paper. Our product, Soundpaper, comprises a very high density 2-Dimensional barcode, a scanner/recorder and printer. Markets include talking photographs (for the $3 Billion/year Scrapbooking industry), talking prescription labels, aids for the visually impaired, etc. LTT has recently closed an Angel round of investment and is working towards a Series A round this fall.
We are currently building our 2nd generation prototype. We have an immediate need for 3 contractor positions. These positions may evolve into full time employee positions when we close our Series A funding.
All work will be done at your location using your hardware; LTT is a distributed company with no office space. All work is “work for hire”.
Configuration Manager
LTT is looking for a contractor to implement and support a Source Code Control system for our development staff. LTT currently has 3 developers but expects to expand significantly in the near future.
The Configuration Manager:
1. Will be responsible for managing software configuration and the build process for the Company’s application.
o Select a source code control system (such as Subversion), which should be appropriate for a small distributed company
o Implement the system
o Train users
2. Will be responsible for:
o Source Code Management
o Maintaining and enhancing the build process
3. Works with Development to:
o Verify builds
o Diagnose, debug, and resolve broken builds.
Required experience:
1. Selecting and implementing a source code management system
2. Experience working with a distributed software development team
3. MS Windows VC++ environment
Desired experience:
1. System management
2. Software testing
Estimated Time:
1. 50 to 100% time until the management system is functional
2. Part time on an on going basis for maintenance.
Lead Programmer
LTT is developing an embedded machine vision (image processing) application. Our Current focus is on developing prototype software that runs on PC using a USB interface to the control hardware. We are looking for a contractor to manage the entire development process and program the non-machine vision portions of the code.
1. Manage code development
a. Thoroughly understand LTT’s code base
b. Understand our programmer’s areas of expertise
c. Help hire future programmers
d. Plan and manage coding tasks
e. Divide coding responsibilities appropriately
2. Write VC++ code outside of the machine vision portions
3. Either write machine interface code or hire appropriate contractor to do so
4. Lead optimization process
5. Design next generation system
Required experience:
1. Microsoft VC++, Visual Studio programming
2. Previous experience managing programmers
Desired experience
1. Machine vision programming
2. Image processing programming
3. Embedded programming
4. Hardware interface programming (in particular USB)
Estimated Time:
1. Full time
Embedded Programmer/Hardware Interface Programmer
LTT’s current focus is implementing a new prototype scanner for our Soundpaper product. This prototype will consist of software running on a PC and interfacing to custom hardware through a USB port. We are looking for a contractor with experience programming interfaces through USB to read buttons, operate controls, interface with a camera, etc.
Required experience:
1. Microsoft VC++, Visual Studio programming
2. Experience writing interface code for USB ports
3. Experience writing hardware control software
Desired experience:
1. Embedded programming
2. Machine vision programming
Estimated Time:
1. Mixed time, ranging from 10% (now), then full time until completion
