This is a practical introduction to relational databases with an emphasis on the web environment using the open source MySQL database engine. Examine how data is organized in a relational database, and study how to extract information using SQL (Structured Query Language). Students completing this class should have a good introductory understanding of how relational databases work, and feel confident writing their own queries.
Darrell Kim is a systems analyst at Kamehameha Schools with more than 10 years of information technology experience. He has designed and developed software applications, conducted training sessions for various systems, and facilitated technology workshops. He brings to the classroom an expertise in web development, SQL, database design, and systems design and analysis.
