Presenter: Jan War, Operations Manager NELHA
Cold deep seawater can be used to cool buildings. There is a project in Honolulu to cool downtown with Sea Water Air Conditioning (SWAC). Jan War will talk about the technology behind SWAC, and the prospects for it around the state.
Jan War graduated from Iolani Schools and attended the University of New Mexico where he studied biology with minors in chemistry, English, and literature. He worked at a contractor for Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii (NELH) during the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion R&D program. Later hired by NELH, he became Operations Manager in 1984, and has continued in that capacity until today.
This pau hana is BYOB/potluck, so please bring a pupu and non-alcoholic beverage to share. Reusable plates and cups are encouraged, as is taking home your own trash.
