Honolulu, HI (August 31, 2011) - The Children¹s Discovery Center is hosting its 10th annual Grandparents Day celebration planned for Sunday, September 11 from 10:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m., with special intergenerational activities. The goal of the event is to recognize and honor local grandparents for all they do to teach and nurture our younger generation. Grandparents Day is a national holiday established in 1978. ³The foundations for learning are set by the family long before a child steps into his or her first classroom,² said Loretta Yajima, President and CEO. ³But families need to be supported and encouraged, and provided with opportunities to nurture and prepare their children for a lifetime of discovery and learning. The Hawaii Children¹s Discovery Center supports our Island families in just that way, as a world-class, interactive, participatory learning environment designed to inspire Hawaii¹s young and ³young at heart² to new heights of learning and discovery.² In Celebration of Grandparent¹s Day, each grandparent accompanied by a paid child¹s admission will receive free admission to the Discovery Center. Grandparents and Grandchildren can enjoy creating memories together in the Center¹s exhibit galleries, make a special keepsake, and make a healthy snack, while supplies last. Plan to spend the day, participate in all the activities, celebrate grandparents, and make memories that will last a lifetime. The Hawaii Children¹s Discovery Center is located at 111 Ohe Street in Honolulu. Hours are Tuesday-Friday 9am-1pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-3pm. Parking is free at the Kaka¹ako Waterfront Park.
