Topic: Building Service-Based Web Applications Using the .NET 3.5 Framework
This meeting will cover building serviced-based web applications using jQuery AJAX capabilities on .NET 3.5. Specifically, we'll compare and demonstrate ways to build the server side using WCF services, ADO.NET services, and ASP.NET MVC (Model View Controller) to accomplish the services implementation. Expect a good overview for each one and showing what is possible in your server side code.
If time permits, we'll also get into comparing database layers with each. That is, enterprise data services vs. LINQ to SQL.
It should be a great event to learn how web application development has evolved over the past few years!
Chris started developing applications for the web using Perl/CGI on Solaris as a student programmer at University of Hawaii ITS over 10 years ago and moved on to working on Unix/Linux rendering systems for a major video game company. When he discovered ASP 2.0/3.0 and Visual Studio he realized where the power was to help him work on the kinds of things he wanted to work on. He has done a lot of development in Java and even dabbles in development for Mac OS X and the iPhone, all of which puts him in a position to appreciate the power of Microsoft's development tools and the .NET platform. He previously worked for CTA of Honolulu for 4 and a half years and is currently a software engineer for Referentia Systems, Inc doing primarily R&D projects for various DOD related research programs.
As always, free pizza, drinks and door prizes will be given away. Hope to see you there.
