.NET UG: Developing and Managing Software Projects

After taking last month off I'm sure everyone is excited to get back together again. Instead of meeting this week (our normal 3rd Wednesday of the month) we will be meeting NEXT WEEK Wednesday, September 23rd.

Randy Williams will be presenting from Singapore via live video feed. This will be a first for us and we will appreciate any feedback on how this all works out. Randy will doing a brain dump of all his years of experience in software development, you won't want to miss this.

In this session, Randy will share his background on building and managing software projects. This talk will include some of the important academic issues such as understanding the various software development lifecycle models (waterfall, unified process, extreme programming, agile, Microsoft Solutions Framework) and some of the practical ones such as maintaining development environments (virtualization).

Other topics will include:
- Managing and triaging bugs
- Juggling multiple project tasks and personnel
- Promotion of code between development, test and production environments
- Project documentation
- Offshoring of resources

While this is not a talk specific on .NET, we will be discussing all of this mostly in the context of Randy's experience in developing and deploying Microsoft solutions over the past 15 years.
