Event Description

The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy IDKICP) was established at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo in 2006. Its missions include training pharmacists and performing research in pharmaceutical science, all with the goal of improving healthcare in the Pacific and around the world. This month, we will hear from the Dean of the College, and in November from one of its pharmaceutical researchers.

Dr. Carolyn Ma has been interested for many years in experiential learning and the public health risks posed by human papilloma virus (HPV). She will speak on the various clinical pharmacy practice projects DKICP is performing around the State. One of these focuses on HPV vaccination of UH Freshmen. The project examines how students learn about HPV, tests ways to more effectively spread that information (technology, social media, etc.), and also vaccinates students around the UH system.

Carolyn Ma received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California at San Francisco and completed a Clinical Pharmacy Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and an Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She has worked at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, at AmMed International in Hong Kong, and at the Stanford Hospitals and Clinics. In 2007, Dr. Ma returned home to Hawai`i to join the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy. She was named the interim Dean in 2015 and permanent Dean in 2016.
