Mobile interfaces present a whole new world of opportunities and challenges for the designer, requiring laser-like focus on your concept and target audience, extensive knowledge of device constraints and capabilities, as well as a passion for learning and keeping up with the latest trends in technology. This workshop is designed as a primer for individuals with a basic knowledge of visual design who want to make the jump into mobile. We will explore the design and ergonomics behind the most popular mobile devices on the market (iOS & Android), discuss the differences between a native app and a mobile web app, and what it means to take a "mobile-first" approach in the design process.
Mike King is a user interface designer at Ikayzo, an interactive design agency based in Honolulu. Mike specializes in user experience and interface design for desktop, web, and mobile applications. He has created interactive designs for educational institutions including University of Hawaii at Manoa and Kapiolani Community College as well as web and mobile brand identities for local startups including Frii, GreenMap, and FrameUp.
