Event Description

Who was the legislature working for this year when it came to clean energy?

The goal has long been stated. Hawaii will be off imported oil by 2030 by at least 70%. But who will get the money? Who will get the long awaited "business friendly support"? For whom will all the red tape be cut? This year's legislature passed a host of clean energy initiatives, some baby steps to be taken, some giant strides, but ultimately who will get to the front of the line and be in the best position to work on major clean energy initiatives. We've heard it a 1,000 times, how Hawaii is a crucible for clean energy projects. We have great ideas coming out of the University of Hawaii, we have entrepreneurs like Darren Kimura, and other who have shown they can attract funding to do "out of the box" energy ideas. But did the legislature make sure that our own entrepreneurs will get a slice of the pie when it comes to weaning us off of oil?

The Hawaii Venture Capital Association has brought together a panel to take on this lively topic. Please join us to hear Representative Hermina Morita, Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Environment Protectio n, Jeff Mikulina, Executive Director of the Blue Planet Foundation founded by Henk Rogers, and Kelly King, Vice President of Pacific Biodiesel.

The Hawaii Venture Capital Association (HVCA) is committed to bringing it members friends high level discussions about Hawaii's goal of achieving energy independence by 2030. "Hawaii's strength in energy is its home grown entrepreneurs," said Bill Spencer, HVCA President. "We know we can import energy technology, but do we have the will to invest in our own 'energy entrepreneurs?"

This is expected to be a highly attended event. Please be sure to register as soon as possible.
