HOUSING IN HAWAII
What's holding it up?
Wednesday, March 23, 2010
Plaza Club 8:00am-1:30pm
Presented by ThinkTech, Hawaii Venture Capital Association and Pacific New Media at the University of Hawaii; sponsored by Hawaii Business Magazine.
Please join us for a half-day panel program on March 23rd, in which we will tackle Housing - one of the toughest problems facing Hawaii. From homelessness to workforce housing, we will leave no issue untouched.
This includes current housing developments, impediments to planning and construction, land use and regulation, traffic and rail, engineering, energy, architecture, sociology, pricing, marketing and financing, all in order to improve housing options for Hawaii's people.
Why is this important to entrepreneurs, investors and service providers? Because to build a tech economy, our workforce needs to have quality and affordable housing, located near good schools and transportation.
Our panelists will include many of the players involved in housing: land owners, planners, environmentalists, engineers, attorneys, developers, builders, legislators, analysts, realtors, policy makers and civic leaders.
They will tackle some tough questions:
What's wrong with the picture?
What are the constraints?
Is it time to 'drain the swamp'?
How do we shape the 'hood'?
Will our community be defined by the free market or neighborhood planning?
What if we do nothing at all?
This may be one our most ambitious programs in a long time, one you don't want to miss.
