Event Description

Speaker: Kathleen Dollard

Topic: Visual Studio 2010: Whats new and a dive into MEF

Decription:

What's New in Visual Studio 2010 and a Dive into MEF

Visual Studio officially launches April 12th! The week after you'll have a chance to see Kathleen Dollard talk about the new features.

Visual Studio 2010 is a complete rewrite of your development tool. It is now written in WPF with an extensibility architecture that makes it easy to customize and extend. You'll see how to use new features such as Call Hierarchy and enhanced Intellisense. You'll see how to modify behavior with new options, and how to find and install from the plethora of Visual Studio add-ins. The other part of the release is, of course, the next version of C#, VB, and the .NET framework. You'll see some new features each language picked up from the other, and take a brief look at variance. New framework features include new data types, and code contracts along with the big new players: parallel support, System.Reactive, and the Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF). After a brief look at why you might care about each of these new features, you'll dive deeper into MEF to see how composability opens up new solutions and design possibilities. Several of these features including MEF are available in Visual Studio 2008. This talk will show the benefits of moving to VS 2010, and will also show important new techniques you can introduce into your VS 2008 projects.
