That sounds really interesting! So does your Xbox project.

Linux on unique devices would be an interesting topic for a Round-Table discussion. I've got a few routers running OpenWRT/DD-WRT, and I'm probably the last Xbox-Linux hacker who actively maintains the source code.

lol Yeah, I wasn't planning on 2 hours of emacs, but as for the main point we can talk about it. Then maybe later on have our open discussion again on other topics such as EC2 and possibly network security or something.

I just would like to have there be a presenter or main topic point at each meeting, if even for half an hour and then break out into our discussion.

Does that sound good to everyone?

If I ever get around to finishing it, I've got a wicked Xbox project on my shop bench: 128Meg RAM (double the normal 64 Megs) running Xbox-Linux, waiting to be fitted with a 750GB hard drive, a Blu-Ray DVD burner, and of course, my Mobi PCS Hele Wireless dongle.

It's gonna be one heck of a router, NAS, and Nightly-Backup (ssh/rsync scripted) solution once it's finished. Now if I can just find the time to work on it... :-)

I'm not a Linux guy, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think you may have some trouble getting good attendance at a two hour talk on Emacs. KeNgLiSh's other suggestions seem more likely to draw a crowd and stimulate discussion (Linux on devices, etc.)

Hi Guys. Thank you so much for setting up this group. All the other groups are for programmers so its nice to have one for Linux SAs!

The areas that interest me are Linux on EC2, backup systems and network/OS security.

I've just been learning about emacs and it looks very versatile. A lot more options than vi, which I am forced to use at work.

Kevin, do you think you could get David to speak for us sometime about emacs?
Comment by Dan Starr on February 18, 2009 at 8:58am
Yeah, emacs is just too dang useful to give up.

Haha, I'd honestly probably be into a really long (probably hands-on, I'd bring a laptop) talk on emacs. It's something I've just played around with. There's a lisp dev environment on there (Slime) that's amazing.

Probably not a lot of interest in emacs, though. Dan Starr mentions that he uses it, I think.

Of interest:
- Running Linux on mobile devices, network devices, embedded systems, etc.
- Running Linux in a cloud (EC2)

This was a good event. We should keep the LUG alive. Sorry I had to bounce out early.I think some good topics would be:

* Hacking Wordpress or Drupral.
* Running Linux on unique devices.

Also, I know a guy (David Burger) who could talk for a 2 hours about Emacs...
