Looked at Unity but the license is very expensive and restrictive. Found another one that just went public domain, and recently added iOS and Android export to the 2D. The 3D looks good although like a low end PC, would look much better on a smart phone or tablet small screen. Trying to get it running right now.

Hi Ted,

It's a very informal meetup of people interested in creating games.  We will probably chat more about Indie game development rather than "working for a big studio", as there aren't any game studios that I know of on Big Island.

There is the new Global Virtual Studio Transmedia Accelerator in Kona, and I know the folks running it. I think they may be an opportunity for freelancers to help out film/video project with a mobile game tie-in -- but that's probably as close as we get to studio life here.  LOL

This is just a free community meetup to bring together folks that like to make games. It has no ulterior motives, no commercial interests, and no list of qualifications.

We'll mostly be there to support each other's efforts. Although my background is tech, I don't think we'll spend much time talking about coding OpenGL coding, Cocos2D or specific toolchains. I hope we'll spend more time chatting about just making games and getting feedback on our early prototypes.

More "Flappy Bird" and less "Kingdom Hearts"

Don, any format or just an initial meet up? Just a general discussion of development tools and workflow? Gamasutra has game industry jobs and a game designer at a major studio requires some serious credentials. This is an example for a job with Disney:
• 3-5+ years of professional game or app development experience.
• Previous work in highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environments
• Bachelor’s degree in Game Design, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
• Broad knowledge of games and apps across multiple genres, from independent to mainstream, from casual to core. Able and willing to apply the knowledge of “what works” to the growing field of educational games.
• Able to present ideas clearly and effectively to a team using a combination of oral, written and visual communication.
• Experience with Unity and/or Cocos2D.
• Experience in a “Live” environment (ongoing support of a product after launch)
• Respects and understands the core values of Disney experiences (e.g. storytelling, innovation, , production quality, inclusiveness)
