Event Description

Today's customers demand intuitive and useful experiences. Design has become the great differentiator in today's crowded marketplace of products, services, and messages.

Today's designers must think about the interrelationship of experiences that live in the real and digital world. How can design and technology enable people to have deeper and more meaningful experiences with products and services? Find out how in this hands-on, 3-day intensive, experience design workshop where we will use a real-world project to learn research, strategy, and design techniques that lead to a multi-touchpoint digital strategy. Real world deliverables are shared and discussed, and all class files are available for download on the class Basecamp site.

Process, Teamwork, and Discovery

Friday, November 2, 9am-4pm

Designing digital experience is the byproduct of multi-discipline team members working in collaboration, utilizing either a five-step human-centered design process (Waterfall) or a rapid iterative design and development process (Agile). Learn the differences and similarities of each process, how to determine which process makes sense for your project, and variations in each approach. Learn the different team roles, required skill sets for each team member, and when they own, influence or participate in the process.

Experience Strategy Workshop

Saturday, November 3, 9am-4pm

The strategy phase is where we develop the principles the digital experience will embody and develop high-level organizational concepts to support those ideas. Based on persona development, we discover how customers interact through multiple touchpoints through journey maps, and create scenarios and taskflows that help identify the ideal experience for these customers. We lay the blueprint and groundwork on how users navigate through digital experiences, and begin mapping them at a high level. Learn the basics of setting up an effective content strategy framework.

Brand, Visual Design Strategy and Style Guides

Sunday, November 4, 9am-4pm

While user-experience architects lay the blueprint and groundwork on how users navigate through the site, visual designers are responsible for the site's emotional experience by providing powerful content and compelling visual design. Before designers can move into Photoshop to create comps, it is imperative to work with clients to create a strategy on which design can be measured and evaluated. Learn how to conduct an effective design strategy workshop and other best practice techniques for visual designers. Learn how designers communicate with engineers through the creation of style guides.
