Event Description

To see if we can coax late risers to come to our group, we'll be trying a new time this week: Lunch at noon and then coworking until 4pm or whenever.

Cafe Jupiter has no sign visible from the street. It's halfway between Kapiolani and Kona on Mahukona on the Diamond Head side of the street, just across the street from Shokudo.

Easy parking in Ala Moana.

The coworking phenomenon was covered on Fox TV recently. Specifically LaunchPad, a coworking cafe located in Austin Texas got some airtime :

Thank you to everyone who came to our Jelly today. Although most of the regulars were not able to make it, we had the largest turnout ever: seven (not including a couple others who I happened to know, including my wife, a home care nurse who did her charting in the cafe).

Kurt, DJ and I discussed the benefits of having "virtual office" workmates. DJ, whose web development company utilizes graphic artist / web developers in the Philippines could certainly make use of that technology.

Iqbal, who recently moved to Honolulu, presented his initial concepts for his new startup to foster professional online communities.

I was able to share some of my latest Javascript and PHP work in Ascribe to Peggy and Iqbal. Peggy, a web developer at Harvard University, is in town on vacation and hopes to make Honolulu her home in the future.

Mark graciously helped me configure VM Fusion running Windows XP so that Internet Explorer in WinXP could test my web application running on MAMP on my new MacBook Pro. Finally I can test my web application in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari on both Windows and Mac OSes all on the same machine.

Finally, I had an interesting discussion with Kurt about wildcard SSL certificates, DNS, Apache Rewrite, colocated servers, fleece made from recycled plastic and a little web app which uses a Google map that graphically shows him where all hacker attacks to his server comes from around the world.

What a fascinating time. Thanks, everyone!

Couldn't free up my schedule for this meetup. Hope to get there next time, though.
