Event Description

Choosing a legal team is one of the most critical steps an entrepreneur must take when deciding to seek investment capital. The Hawaii Venture Capital Association has invited a panel of top lawyers, experienced in corporate and securities law plus an experienced serial entrepreneur to address the issues for members and guests at its May 22, 2008 luncheon meeting. The panel includes, Lori Hiraoka, Goodsill Anderson Quinn and Stifel, Darren Nunn, of McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon, David Watumull of Cardax Pharmaceuticals to address this important topic. Soliciting investment capital is job number one for entrepreneurs seeking to grow a business and dominate a market. The process however is governed by countless laws and requires an astute and experienced legal team to bring an investment round to a successful conclusion. The HVCA panel will discuss several key considerations such as how to find an experienced attorney, how to verify their capabilities, what kind of process should be expected, how to avoid problems and what payment models exist.

“This is one aspect of entrepreneurship where one wrong move can be fatal,” said Bill Spencer, President of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association. “Entrepreneurs need the best and most experienced legal assistance they can afford. This is no time to hire the lawyer that drew up your will or you will be burying your company in problems,” he said.

The Hawaii Venture Capital Association, founded in 1988, is one of Hawaii’s oldest private non-profit economic development organizations devoted to entrepreneurship and capital formation.
