Event Description

For all you fit and want-to-be-fit nerds and geeks, please join us on our next Nerd Hike! We will be going to Mariner's Ridge.

http://www.lotsafunmaps.com/Oahu/Mariners_Ridge_Hike.html#gallery

The hike starts from Hawaii Kai (directions are in the link above). It is not has difficult as our previous hike, but nonetheless a good work out.

In addition there are a number of Geocaches (http://www.geocaching.com) on the hike and we will be looking for them.

Join us no matter your age or shape! (Children encouraged, I'll be bringing my daughter.)

Meet at the trail head at 10AM. Good weather only. It's not that much fun in the rain. Bring lots of water and a lunch. Great views at the top.

Ken

LOL! I looked all over the coin, but didn't think of looking on the edge! Thanks!

Oh I'm sorry I forgot to explain the registration process!

Along the edge of the coin you will find a unique coin ID, usually a 5-7 digit ID made up of numbers and letters. This is the number you need to get the activation code from Oakcoins that Geocaching.com is asking for.

Let me know if you need any other info!

Dale, i'm mystified as i try to register your geocoin. Oakcoins wants a Geocaching Tracking Number in order to create an activation code. And Geocaching wants an activation code before creating a tracking number. Any hints?

thanks,
Ken

Big fat zeros on the hydrology map. A hiking we will go!

NOAA reports no rain overnight in the Hawaii Kai area with a projected rainfall of less than 1/10 of an inch over the next 24 hours. Looks pretty good!

As of tonight the hike is ON! Please bring plenty of water and shoes that can get muddy. I will post again in the morning, but I don't expect things to change.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all!

Doesn't look too bad. Sunny out now. Right now the hike is on. I'll post again this evening.

The hydrology report from NOAA shows little rain on the Hawaii Kai side of the island where Mariner's is. The report is updated every few hours so you can get a pretty good idea for how wet things were:

http://www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl/pages/hydrology.php

I usually do a quick reference on the "OAHU 23hr" and "OAHU 3hr" maps (its displayed in hundredths of an inch) to get a good idea of how wet the ground might be.

I'll be posting go/no go tonight. It poured out here in Windward last night, what about in the city? I am a little concerned about how wet it is going to be.
