I came across this story in my Twitter feed:

New York Observer to emphasize long-form, scoops with new web design

Nice to see WordPress making advances in the media world.  If I'm not mistaken, Mashable and TechCrunch are on WP.  Anyone know other major media outlets that run their sites on WordPress?

Thanks for the share.  Yes, both Mashable and TechCrunch are on WP.

In aggregate Cheezburger network which operates entirely on WordPress accounts for 10% of ALL WP traffic.

I know the developer for, The Daily Caller and Pajama's Media, both of which run on WordPress and get over 100k hits/day.

Los Angeles Times Blogs, runs on WP but not the main site....   And of course all of Automattic's VIP clients: CNN, BBC, Time, TechCrunch, etc...  http://vip.wordpress.com/clients/

@Jon: Nice comment.  That list of Automattic's VIP clients was exactly I was looking for!  It will be really useful for when I talk up WordPress to skeptical clients.

Example conversation:
"Isn't WordPress mainly for blogging?  I want to launch a news website."

"CNN uses WordPress for a bunch of their sites."

"Oh.  Well, if it's good enough for CNN, it's good enough for me."

Just saw this follow-up article commenting on the original story: New York Observer punts Drupal in favor of WordPress.  More opinions on the aesthetics, typography, and visual aspects.

Too funny...  I think I'm the one who first told Alex Vasquez, the author of that post to wplift, about the original story after I saw you share it here first.  It's a small world....

Really?  Man, it is a small world.
