Not much action on the group for a while.  Anyone interested in a get-together?  Pau hana, or breakfast some Saturday at Denny's (or pick your favorite)?

Aloha, Jim! Welcome to the big island hui. It would be great to have a meeting at your restaurant in the near future.

UH Hilo has an ICS program. Often profs have an idea about where the local jobs are because they keep in touch with their students.

Aloha Jim, tough one. You might want to meet the folks at Pacific Pro Tech in Hilo to see if they have overflow work.

Held a Google Apps / Facebook class yesterday in Waimea. Reason I mention this is... folks that attend these classes are often looking for related IT services. Consider taking a class to network with potential customers.

Also check with Steve from Malamatech.com. Good networking event.

We Green Collar Technologies are planning an Innovation Summit in 2011. This will be a great place to get your name in front of local businesses with potential need for IT services.

Weekly Adobe User Group meetings in Hilo. Third Tuesday if you're ever on this side. Details http://biaug.com

More marketing related events for your side of the island being planned now.

Classes are held just about every week in Hilo.
Updating class calendar on Facebook later today.

Hope that helps.

Hi Jim - I don't think we have anything suitable at the moment, but it changes reasonably frequently, check at http://www.gemini.edu/jobs . Other observatories that I see occasionally looking to feel technology related needs include Subaru and Keck, and I'm sure the rest occasionally have openings as well. The only observatory that bases out of that side of the island that I'm aware of is Keck though. Good hunting.

Aloha Jim - I'm on Oahu but we are on the Big Island every few months. The real Big Islanders will probably have more suggestions, but I would check with the major resorts (they all have a small IT staff), the observatory and UH Manoa (although that would obviously be a hike from Waikoloa.) Good luck with your new restaurant!

Aloha Everyone,
Thank you for letting me join the Big Island Techie Group! We have a new restaraunt in Waikoloa Village at the Golf Course: "Banjys Paradise Bar & Grill". I am also looking for any IT-Technical related opportunity on the Big Island. I was previously an IT Director Telecommunications/Networking Engineering. Telecom, PBX, CTI, Call Center flow, are my strengths. Possibly we can have a meeting at our restaraunt going forward?
Thanks! Jim

Glad to see that Charles is still working on JRuby and that he is working on enabling programming for the Android. Thanks for the link.
