The Harimaya Bridge premiers tonight (4/23) at Dole Cannery -- slated for one-week run

Aloha,

This is a independent film shot on location in Kochi prefecture by first-time feature director Aaron Woolfolk (American).  Back in January, I caught a special showing of the DVD-edition sponsored by the Japanese Consulate.  Despite the less than ideal format -- looking forward to seeing it on the big screen -- I found it quite impressive and also moving.  It's an unprecedented film in more ways than one, needless to say highly recommended, and I'd strongly encourage everyone to go.

Hello Everyone,

This is Aaron Woolfolk, writer/director of THE HARIMAYA BRIDGE. I apologize if I am bothering you with my emails. But these weekly messages are a result of the continued enthusiasm that the people of Hawaii are giving to the film.

I am thrilled to announce again that due to the continued strength of ticket sales and audience response, the film has been extended for a FOURTH week at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18 theater in Honolulu! Now it is scheduled to run through May 20th.

And to mark this new extension, I am coming to Honolulu this week to express my gratitude. Among other things, I will be present at the movie theater to answer audience questions about THE HARIMAYA BRIDGE after select showings of the film. I will do these question-and-answer sessions at the following show times:

Friday, May 14: 12:50 p.m., 3:50 p.m., 6:50 p.m.

Saturday, May 15: 12:50 p.m., 3:50 p.m., 6:50 p.m.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could let your students, colleagues, organization members, and friends know about these chances to not only see the film, but also to meet and question the writer and director.

As I routinely mention for those who might be reading this for the first time, I am honored by the response of critics to THE HARIMAYA BRIDGE, such as The San Francisco Examiner calling it "one of the best films of the year"; or The Los Angeles Times calling it "powerful" and "a unique, complex, consciousness-raising accomplishment"; or the Hawaii Herald calling it "cinematic artistry." And I remain proud that the film has been called a useful educational tool as 1) a depiction of contemporary rural Japan free of typical movie sterotypes, 2) a cross-cultural story, and 3) with its dual subtitles, a useful tool for those studying both the Japanese and English languages.

Thank you yet again. I hope to see some of you at the theater this Friday and Saturday.
