What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

If you can only think of one thing, that's OK too.

1) Access to Microsoft DreamSpark Premium account.

1) I get to learn new things about a subject that I have studied and loved for years.

2) Exposure to a wide variety of people with similar interests. This provides the opportunity to see different viewpoints, gain exposure to different ideas, and the ability to draw from a large knowledge base. A university setting is a great place to explore new ideas with other people.

3) I get to do all this in Hawaii - one of the most wonderful places in the world!

Since I am actually an engineering student, It's difficult to say what is good or bad about being an ICS student. What I have noticed about the handful of ICS courses I have taken would have to be the fact that, compared to engineering classes, every ICS course uses the newest tools available and is always on top of the newest trends. This course is no exception. Creating a professional online persona is something I would not immediately though of as important.

1. Professor Jason Leigh. This guy is the reason I am here. He is making a big push for virtual reality and augmented reality systems. The labs he intends to build will spark interest in ICS for future students.

2. I can relate to these people! Mostly anime and videogame related, but since I am new to ICS these guys are cool enough where I won't be hesitant to ask for help.

3. You don't have to get your hands dirty! I won't need any power tools for these classes (I hope). I am ready to dive deep into the hardships of software programming.

1. I definitely do like the free software from MS DreamSpark! My status hasn't been renewed for a while, so I don't have access to this at the moment. Wish it were automatic renewal for ICS students.

2. Having a license for IntelliJ IDEA. We were introduced to different IDEs, but I personally like the ones by JetBrains.

3. That we're constantly blasted with information concerning employment opportunities. Though a majority of us undergrads may question why we receive them (since we may not be qualified yet), it gives us an idea what experiences we need and what's out there.

- We have great modern facilities

- Our professors know our names and care for the students

- The class environments are not competitive and encourage everyone to learn

1)  The opportunity to learn different programming languages.  In engineering, I learned C and C++.  In ICS, I get to learn JavaScript.

2) Getting the opportunity to expand our connections and network to different professions, companies, etc.

3) Learning to become an athletic software engineer.  To be consistent in practicing to code.

1. Variety.  ICS is such a broad subject that there are many branches to learn from.

2. Classes are positively challenging.

3. Learning is endless.  Assignments completed in class can be improved on even after the course is finished.

- The opportunity to apply conceptual knowledge through various class projects and assignments.

- The ability to receive or express different perspectives on solutions to a problem.

- The professors are often enthusiastic about the subjects that they teach. This creates a positive and engaging classroom environment.

What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

1. The amount of learning and major focuses for the program are many, and you have the ability to double major with something like art or a language.

2. There are professors that are passionate about their career that it inspires students to get more involved in the course. And it's nice that they remember names so you feel like you're needed.

3. Networking is also nice. To be able to get connected with companies and job opportunities is beneficial since it is a competitive industry to get into.

1) Broad career choice with good pay.

2) Learn critical thinking and problem solving that you can apply to the real world.

3) Stay up to date with latest technologies.

1. Having knowledgeable professors who genuinely care about helping you prepare for your career.

2. The opportunity to learn and apply a variety of subject matter and programming languages to my repertoire.

3. Learning to work closely with peers in school mimics a working environment along with the joy/challenges associated with it.
