Event Description

Please bring your families, gadgets, and tools to the fifth annual Hawaii Geek Meet, a fun, free, grassroots, family-friendly event. It brings a fantastic mix of people from technical, scientific, creative, academic, and media backgrounds together to meet, share knowledge, and frankly, get some sun and fresh air. Really great things can happen when you introduce designers to engineers, programmers to teachers, kids to astronomers...

This is an informal, casual gathering. No registration, no fees, no booths or badges required. If you organize a hobbyist group or tech team, you can bring and setup a tent and tables, or you can just bring a beach towel! Either way, we'd love to have you. It's basically a cluster of potluck picnics, where your neighbors just happen to be friendly, smart, curious geeks.

As always, local ham radio groups will be showing off their equipment and making long-distance contacts. I'm also hoping to draw several representatives from the local maker movement. In years past we've also hosted the UH Institute for Astronomy, builders from the local LEGO club (LEAHI), costume designers from the Pacific Outpost 501st Legion (yes, the Storm Trooper folks), and mixed geeks from local tech communities like TechHui, Bytemarks, and HawaiiThreads. We also hope to see people into Second Life, aquaponics, photography, circuitry, iPads, and more!

I haven't been able to promote this fifth annual picnic as much as I'd planned, but I still look forward to seeing some new faces! If you could help by sharing the Facebook event with your geeky and geek-positive friends, I'd appreciate it!

Excited to have members from Hi Capacity there, and hoping to see some makers from Maui and Kauai as well! It's an interisland maker meet, too!

Wow I wish I could be there.  Nowhere that I've ever been have I met a more friendly and enthusiastic bunch of techies :)
