I found this
little blip in my
Google Reader this afternoon. Apparently, Longs Drugs is being bought out by a much larger Pharmacy Chain,
CVS.
Back when I was living in Las Vegas, I was a lot more involved in the "Hardware Hacking" scene, and got hooked on the
Camera Hacking scene. Fortunately for me, Las Vegas had no shortage of CVS stores, and I had a steady supply of all those cheap, hackable "One Time Use" camcorders.
Nowadays, aside from missing
Fry's Electronics, I miss having a CVS store around the corner. It now costs over 3 times as much to have "Hackable Items" shipped to me by a fellow Hacker, so I pretty much dropped out of the scene. (Huge gripe: Electronics-Hobbyist chemicals -- even the common stuff like Liquid Flux -- are listed as "combustible" or "corrosive". Thus, it's a little difficult to get a hold of these things in Hawaii.)
Anyways, here's an optimistic "Thumbs Up" on this acquisition from me: Let's hope Longs starts carrying more of the things that CVS carries -- like those hackable cameras. ;-)
Now if only we can get a Fry's Electronics so I don't have to hoard the essentials like Liquid Flux,
Chip-Quik, and Etching Solution for my proto-boards.
