Say, we also put together the local Big Island Adobe User Group Meetings over here. Just planting that seed in case anyone is looking for something techie to do when over here. The meetings are at Hawai`i Community College and are held in the evenings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
it's an interactive art piece that i worked on with a group a few years ago called the "fantastic piano". i have since dubbed it a musical instrument for the talentless :) it consists of the 6 cylinders filled with water (and glitter for visual effect), 6 IR sensors on the black platform in front of the cylinders, 6 pumps connected underneath each cylinder, an arduino, lights, and speakers. when you trip the sensors with hand movements (think conductor), notes sound, the pumps generate bubbles that move the glitter in the water, and you can control the decibels by proximity to the sensors. the best part of that project was a perfect team and the unexpected result that anyone can play it and make it sound GREAT. thanks for the interest :)
Hi Mika,
Sorry it took me a while to respond! Yes, I work with Dan mostly. I have talked with Peter Kay a few times. I am really happy with the HCI community here.

Hi Mika,
Many thanks for the warm welcome... I actually know Truman through some friends at church and he's been trying to get me on here for a while. I'm looking forward to being part of the community!
I'm in Kona, actually, but come to business to Oahu periodically. You may want to check out my presentation at www.hvca.org. It'll give you a sense of my orientation regarding socially and environmentally conscious business here in Hawaii.
hi mika. thanks for the welcome. hey, i applied with your company in the fall. i was referred to you guys by kat actually. i definitely need to brush up on my skills. i hope i can be diligent about that this summer.
Eh, a platform is a platform. With projects like Wine and Mono it's all about the flexibility of the language/API, although I think Gentoo does it faster than anyone else. ;)
Although, nothing beats the usability of Visual Studio.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions on groups to join; I'll certainly look into them. If you are interested in seeing a demo of SL, my department (IT staff and students) will be doing a demo with student reactions on July 11, 2pm-3:30, Kapi'olani Community College (free parking), Naio 203.
Thanks for the tip on groups. Japan is always of interest, as are the other NE Asian countries. When I review the developments in cn, jp, and kr, the impression (for a variety of reasons) is usually' "honto sugoi".
The shop I work in is using ajax and ruby to build-out and support Saipan DataCom, which is the ccTLd registrar for .mp
(Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands). We are working on a site called chi.mp.
Thanks for the aloha.
My focus is really on web strategy which certainly includes design. Our creative director is Mario Nanguse who is also an member of this techhui. Have you met him yet?
