I've got no problem with bandwidth, I've got tons of bandwidth. That's not the problem. The problem is memory load on the server due to php processes running whenever more users are in the system.

Each connection launches separate processes in Apache whereas Nginx uses one worker process with a fixed number of CGI processes no matter how many connections it’s serving.

Nginx is like Lighttpd but without the memory leaks. But Nginx doesn't support .htaccess and you have to be careful as to how many users are on the server due to PHP processes being generated by each which would also cause memory problems.

I've traded an email with another WP user who graciously sent me his nginx.conf file to be used to config WP for Nginx but was wondering if anyone local has been using Nginx with WordPress.

I'm running a WP site on Apache and since WP is such a memory hog I'm thinking about switching to Nginx for the server. Anyone else familiar with the switchover?

Alex, totally agree! IMHO WordPress is the perfect platform for small and even some medium sized businesses. Using the right Theme it makes it very easy to launch and manage.

FYI: In the Drupal space, Acquia has just launched Drupal Gardens (http://www.drupalgardens.com/) which provides a simple Drupal solution.

While I think WP has some limitations, but the simple architecture and design is really powerful. I see some that have never even seen HTML or CSS before be able to setup and customize WP themes in a semester.

Teaching the same on a more featureful platform like drupal would be impossible.

Between WordPress's scheduling features for publishing content and Hootsuite's scheduling feature for sending Tweets, updating facebook status and more it allows you to automate a marketing campaign entirely!

Hi Chris,
Although WordPress does not manage your POP3 accounts (this would be a killer plugin though) you can edit who receives email THROUGH the site under the Control Panel (/wp-admin/) General Settings Page (/wp-admin/options-general.php) which contains your sites primary email address. Down a few options under the settings tab is Discussion (/wp-admin/options-discussion.php) which allows you to select what types of notifications to receive.

If you are in need of a contact form, I recommend "Contact Form 7" which is quite advanced in its more recent release.

I completely understand Dave! It took me a while to get the hang of it. Hopefully we can pool our experiences here to create a useful reference for people. Let me know if you encounter any bumps along the way.

I am plowing through WordPress for Dummies with a blunt instrument, e.g. my parietal frontal lobes. I should have studied code and markup languages instead of vodoo (economics) and gonads (strategic studies).

I am all ears (with a bit (as in byte) of neuronal material clinging)
