How is that done ? .NET ? Java ? some other language ?

I have a project where something like that would be really helpful. Using ʻokina and kahakō set in embellished script fonts is a PITA. The default characters for ʻokina (left single quote and U+02BB) never look right and they break the connectors in ugly ways. You always end up drawing them :-/ Adobe and Bitstream need to hire some Hawaiian type designers.

I'm surprised that even the fonts from the good foundaries that go to great lengths to create nice kerning pairs, hinting, ligatures, etc. don't handle this type of diacriticals well.
Situation:
I'm calling external SWF files to play in my main timeline using a loader function. The buttons include the removeChild (loader); before calling a new SWF. All works fine,

Problem:
When one navigates away from an external SWF that contains a FLV (video) file, the video's audio continues to play even though the file was removed. I'm not using video components---the video in the external SWF is called and controlled with Actionscript. If I was working within a single timeline, this would be a snap to code out. However, I'm calling the entire SWF externally (and several of the files have FLV assets).

Clearly, there's a bit of code needed for the button on the main file to stop the Netstream connection in the external file. However, I can't seem to nail it down since it should be set up as a variable (for use on any SWF within the site--like RemoveChild (loader);) rather than targeting the specific file's instance name in the external SWF.

I'd be happy to share the code and URL if anyone has insight on resolving things.
Currently, repeated button clicks seem to effectively scrub the audio--not a good option. Free Design Element Resourcestag:www.techhui.com,2009-12-11:1702911:Topic:541682009-12-11T01:40:23.667ZBranden Tangahttp://www.techhui.com/profile/BrandenTanga

Okay, this might be heated, but I want to ask anyway:
CSS for layout, and tables for tabular data, right?

as far as usability goes, is there anything wrong with using tables to display data. In the this case the output is meant to look like what you would expect to look at with xcel.

I have been using CSS for everything (layout forms, etc.), but since I am pulling database results with ColdFusion, I can't figure out a way to make the CSS dynamically bound the the db queries.

Thanks,
Aloha on Rails, the Hawaii Ruby on Rails Conference, is proud to offer a full day tutorial for Ruby on Rails. This course is designed to teach you how to build, test, and deploy a Ruby on Rails powered web application. At the end of the training, you will have a working app live on the web! This tutorial is offered free with any paid conference registration.

Once you've deployed your app to the web, experience two more full days of talks and sessions for an energizing and stimulating experience. Learn more at http://alohaonrails.com/
Mike haXe (and a digression about trends in languages and tools)tag:www.techhui.com,2009-03-03:1702911:Topic:339652009-03-03T05:06:39.985ZBranden Tangahttp://www.techhui.com/profile/BrandenTanga
I spent much of the past month looking at Web 2.0 stuff because I was extremely unfamiliar with the tools people use. What I found beyond the straightforward stuff (javascript libraries) is that there's a LOT of attempted tool/language re-use. haXe allows you to learn one language and do multiple things with it. Other things I saw: Cappuccino and Objective-J let you leverage your Objective-C (iPhone/OS X/GNUstep) knowledge to do client-side web programming. There's server-side javascript, which can be used to verify input with the same functions you used on the client side -- good in case you run into some rogue/forging clients, I suppose. Are there other uses of server-side javascript? Does anybody actually write apps on the server side entirely in javascript? This would let the front-end guys into the back-end world to some extent, quite the opposite of what GWT has done for Java -- which allows you to write Java and have it magically turn into Javascript, as Dan Leuck demonstrated at the Eclipse User's Group recently. Philip Johnson recently mentioned the Apache Wicket project, which appears to do the same thing (I think a Wicket vs GWT (GXT) comparison would be a great discussion, btw). Adobe Air allows you to do desktop development using Javascript (among other things).

What else is out there that allows for multiple use?
