But there's still something missing, and that's the actual capturing of finger motion in 3D space, which would allow the user to perform high-resolution, grab-select-move manipulation. Imagine reaching into the displayed 3D space and picking up tiny, individual objects with your fingers and precisely manipulating them.

I've come up with an idea as to how that could be accomplished, in a fairly simple and straightforward approach. I haven't come across anything like it in my searches of the Internet in general and the U.S. Patent Office web site in particular. So I think it's unique.

The problem: What do I do with it? Should I go through the expense and time of full development and patenting? Should I try to sell the idea directly to Microsoft or Sony or Nintendo? Is there anyone out there who knows how to take something like this from concept to product?

I envision a nationwide network that connects people with real work
ethics and skills to post their desire to work with people who are
looking for workers in these types of categories. Outside of craigslist
which has become bloated with spam and scammers. In this economy
everyone is looking for work, lets help them find it.
This is a startup and I wish the model to start in Hawaii. With the
proper planning and infrastructure we could open it up nationwide
I realize I might be giving this idea away, but I'm hoping to find
I was listening to a ABC World News report today about rising poverty in America. The broadcaster suggested innovation as a solution to our nation's economic problems. She cited Apple as an example of how their innovation has created 24,000 jobs in the last five years.

What do you think about the idea of having a group on TechHui where people can freely brainstorm about startup ideas? I enjoy dreaming up business ideas but don't have any time to devote to them because I'm otherwise occupied. Personally I don't mind sharing ideas. I'm guessing there are others like me.

An business idea came to mind just today. If there was a Startup Idea Group on TechHui, I'd write about it on the group and others could comment on its viability. Perhaps subsequently someone would come along and implement the idea, create jobs and our economy would benefit as a result.

Here's today's idea: A relative in New York City had a funeral yesterday and a family member commented that funeral homes should offer streaming video of the funeral so those who can't attend in person can still be a part of it via video. What if a company put together a streaming video platform which enabled small freelance videographers all over the world to provide services live online video coverage of events. The company would create an online platform where videographers could have one to three people on their video team with cameras providing a video feed to a laptop onsite where someone would mix the video. The laptop would upload the video to the server which would then stream out to players in browsers and mobile devices. Viewers could help defray costs by paying a pay-per-view fee. The platform would process micropayments, take a cut and charge the videographers a fee to use the service. The platform could even provide the videographers an online billing feature which they could use to bill their customer (i.e., in this case the family having the funeral) for their services much in the same way that Campaign Monitor allows web developers to create email campaigns for customers and provides a billing platform for the developers to charge their end customers for the service. Most videographers don't have the expertise to set up live streaming video. So being empowered by a platform like this would be a win/win. The videographers could be signed on and trained like affiliates, authorized service providers or franchises. The platform could create a skinnable website just for the event, perhaps with it's own custom domain name. Also the platform could have a online social component where the viewer could leave comments for the family. This platform could be used for weddings or any event or conference.

What do you think?
There are two prizes: (1) $100K for the grand prize and (2) $10K for the Amazon Payments prize.

Aside from the obvious benefits of publicity and $5K each in cash and Amazon Payment credits for the payments prize, what are the other benefits? How about the disadvantages? Would you consider choosing Amazon as your company's billing provider? A vast majority of your U.S. customers will already bought something from Amazon making it easier for them to not have to enter their personal information again when signing up for your service. And it is great to not have to worry about storing credit cards securely with CISP compliance. Amazon does that for you. Do you mind having your customers get a bill from Amazon for your services. Do you care that it makes your company look a bit "small time" because the customers are not getting billed directly by your company? Authorize.net has a Customer Information Manager which can securely warehouse customer credit card information for use in creating a white-labeled billing system where the customer sees your company billing them directly. Despite Authorize.net being down earlier this month due to a fire, perhaps it is a better choice than Amazon.

I can see that the entrant probably needs to be at the stage of development to already have a mature SaaS architecture that is configurable, multi-tenant and scalable in order to support the increase in users that the contest publicity will provide and not give the company a bad name due to traffic-spike-induced downtimes.

Other thoughts?

The deadline for the contest is a month away: August 26, 2009.

Eligibility requirements:

(a) if the entrant is a business, it has not generated more than $5 million USD in gross annual revenues in any 1 calendar year; and
(b) it has not generated more than $5 million USD in outside funding and© the Business Proposition entered is original and was created solely by the entrant and will not violate the rights of any third party or law, rules, regulation or ordinance.

ASK LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT SENATE'S PROPOSED SENATE VERSION OF SB199 CD2

Call your legislators before Tuesday’s 2:45pm hearing to ask them to support the Senate's proposed Conference Draft 2 (CD2) for SB199, which industry supports. As amended, this proposed draft would save over $130 million over the FY10-FY11 biennium and addresses enforcement issues while preserving Act 221.

However, the proposed House version would effectively kill Act 221 by limiting disproportionate credit allocations from investors who cannot use the credits. This would result in significant lost investments to investors and could cause many Act 221 companies to run out of money and fail.

Dear Legislator:

RE: STRONG SUPPORT FOR THE SENATE'S PROPOSED SB 199 CD2 WHICH IS PROJECTED TO SAVE MORE THAN $130 MILLION OVER BIENNIUM and PRESERVE ACT 221.

STRONG OPPOSITION TO HOUSE PROPOSED SB199 CD2 WHICH WOULD EFFECTIVELY KILL ACT 221FOR MOST INVESTORS.

I am writing to ask that you support the Senate's proposed SB199 CD2. The Hawaii Science & Technology Council, together with other industry representatives, has worked tirelessly with members of the legislature, the hi-tech industry, and community leaders in an ongoing collaborative effort to successfully craft legislation that reduces the State’s budgetary shortfall, retains the investment and job creation components of Act 221, and provides additional tools for enforcement of Act 221’s safeguards against potential abuse. These proposed solutions will not only produce substantial budgetary savings for the State but also safeguard Hawaii’s emerging hi-tech industry just at the moment it is beginning to find its sea legs – an industry that is an essential key to Hawaii’s 21st Century economic growth.

Industry supports a revised version of the Senate's proposed SB 199 CD2 that is estimated to result State budgetary savings of more than $130 million over the FY10 – FY11 biennium.

Conversely, we are strongly opposed to the House proposed draft SB199 CD2 which will effectively kill Act 221 through the restriction of the allocation of credits among investors. This change will eliminate much if not most of Hawaii investor interest and substantially decrease Mainland investment as well. Such restrictions would significantly dry-up this critical source of investment capital and result in job losses, company closures and decreased local ownership in Hawaii's most promising tech companies. They would de-rail the significant progress made by the State to diversify our economy over the past seven years.

Please support industry in our support of a revised version of the Senate's proposed SB199 CD2. Please do not support efforts to kill Act 221, as would result if the House version of this bill passes.
