Looking at some iPhone Objective C code today I couldn't help but be struck by how awkward it is compared to the Java code we write for Android, the Groovy and Ruby we use for web apps and the C# code we sling for Silverlight and WPF. Of course a good developer can write beautiful code in any language and a bad developer can write bad code in any language, but the fact remains - Objective C is old and ugly. Lines like "NSNumber* value = [[NSNumber alloc] initWithFloat:1.0];" look ridiculous,…

Of course a good developer can write beautiful code in any language and a bad developer can write bad code in any language, but the fact remains - Objective C is old and ugly. Lines like "NSNumber* value = [[NSNumber alloc] initWithFloat:1.0];" look ridiculous, and Apple must know this. They need a sexy new language for their sexy OS.<br/>
<br/>
I'm willing to bet Apple is working on a new language with all the niceties we've come to expect from modern languages such as clean terse syntax and language-level support for common design patterns. Of course, they could just pick one of the many existing modern languages suited to this domain, but that wouldn't be Apple's way. They will create something new, and I bet we will hear about it this year. iPads for Sumo Wrestlerstag:www.techhui.com,2010-08-25:1702911:Topic:661562010-08-25T03:55:20.225ZCameron Souzahttp://www.techhui.com/profile/CameronSouza

<p style="margin-left: 40px;">Japan's ancient sport is getting a new toy. In an effort to improve communication among its oversize wrestlers, the Sumo Association announced Monday that it was distributing iPads to its 51 sumo stables. Apple's (<a rel="external" href="http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=AAPL">AAPL</a>) tablet was chosen, according to the <a rel="external nofollow" target="new" href="http://www.jiji.com/jc/c?g=spo_30&k=2010082300754">Jiji</a> news agency, because many stablemasters don't use computers and sumo wrestlers aren't good at punching messages on mobile phones with their big hands.</p>

I'm really tired of dealing with the speed and file corruption issues with the Jurassic HFS+ filesystem. HFS is older than some of our team members. When will OS X move to ZFS for its standard FS? How about something better? Some say it was a licensing issue, but I'm not sure what exactly that would be unless they wanted to make proprietary closed source extensions. Now they are rumored to be working on their own advanced file system, but they are sure taking their sweet time :-/ Apparently they have been furiously hiring file system developers for the past year.<br/> Netflix For The iPad Is No Joke. I like to use the Google Notifier to let me know when I have new email, but I use multiple Google Apps accounts and it will only let me configure one. I found this neat article yesterday that explains how to copy the app and configure it for another account. The only caveat is that it requires that you have Interface Builder installed: <a href="http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20061117161341318">http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20061117161341318</a><br></br><br></br>I set…

The iPad looks great, but Apple (read: Steve) really needs to get over its aversion to Flash.<br />
Those little blue cubes on your favorite video sites and Flex apps will quickly grow tiring. Nevertheless, the Kindle is toast.

Seems like Apple is getting some hard times from hardware rebels.. or why should Mac OS X run only on Apple hardware?<br />

Finally, after almost 10 years, a pure Cocoa Finder! Now if Microsoft could just rewrite everything in .NET all would be well in the OS ecosystem...<br />
<br />
Its amazing that the upgrade actually saves you disk space. This has to be a first for an OS upgrade.
