Hi Folks.
I'm a work at home Flex coder. Would love to do lunch or something similar once in awhile to share experiences witht tech oriented folks on the Maui. I live in Paia.

I am interested in anything that can help me plug in to more tech oriented people. I'm not a coder, but I can generally figure it out and modify it to do what I want with a little research. So I don't know how I would play well with FOSS projects, but as long as I'm not coding from scratch. I have a very mechanical mind and have a few devices I'd like to see produced. Some of them are on a scale that would be too much for an individual to pursue. In addition, I lack a few skills and proficiency (like programming from scratch), that are essential to making some projects happen.

More or less, I'm open to anything. The big thing is that I'd like to find another revenue stream, as we're all trying to increase our own. This website is great to make contacts if you are a techie, but Maui needs a place where people can easily find local resources and techs. It's been my experience that people will simply live with a poorly performing system because it's normal to them. However, when able to make contact with these people, they are ecstatic when things perform as it should.

Maybe us Maui guys can set up our own network of talent as well as web portal to attract visitors. If there are enough people who can agree on something, we could even pool finances to purchase marketing tools like radio time and newspaper ad space.

Hi, Light. Are you talking about commercial ventures or FOSS projects?

Also, are there any westside techies out there? Makawao is a long way to go for lunch from Lahaina on a work day. :-)

Hey Fellow Maui Techies. . .
Lately I have been having lunch in Makawao with some other fellow techies. It is nice because some of us work from home.

Please contact me if you would like to join.

Thanks,
Ben

Aloha...just joined the group at the invitation of Daniel. I'd like to see a growing involvement in Space and Technology from Hawaii. Hopefully the research and tech park continues to grow and thrive. I currently work for the US Air Force at the Air Force Maui Optical and Supercomputing Site (AMOS) http://www.maui.afmc.af.mil (with offices at the research and tech park on Lipoa)

I used to be a spacecraft navigator for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Lab, where I worked on a handful of Mars missions.

UH is putting together a CubeSat mission, to be launched in 2010. I'm collaborating with them o this.

Anywho, happy holidays to those here in the group. Cheers.
