Hi Jerry -  I think if I were to add another PV installation, I'd get one with battery backup. Without battery backup, your system goes off when MECO goes down.  With battery backup they put in the electronics that allow you to remain powered while locked off the grid.  There are several experienced PV companies here on Maui and they can tell you what you need by looking at your utility bill.

Google announced an Android/Arduino Open Accessory Dev kit yesterday. Looks pretty cool... aside from the USB shield augmented Arduino, the kit includes a shield with some accessories to play with. It is an open design, with specs available on-line. Make zine got hold of one of the kits and posted a hands-on article...

Techies:  I spoke with Tommy and got email confirmation from Lynn.  It seems Pamela's UH talk and thus her trip got cancelled. Since she is not going to be here, there will be no presentation on Google API, etc. this week.  Tommy was going to post an update, but given that its already after 8pm, I figured he's gotten busy again.

Its a bit late to re-plan for an alternative event this week, but you are all invited to a Maui Makers meeting next week thursday at our new space in Pu'unene.  Details to follow.

Is Pamela Fox still on schedule to talk this week? I have a maui techies dinner on my calendar for May 5th with note that she will be presenting.

URGENT Tech legislative action needed from Maui.   Received a call from Yuka at HTDC.  There is bill to extend the R&D Tax Credit provision from Act 221.  It is still alive, but barely.  They need calls BEFORE TOMORROW MORNING.  They haven't heard anything from Maui entrepreneurs and businesses.   So PLEASE call the legislators at the numbers below.  Leave a message that you support SB753.  Let them know you are involved with technology on Maui.   I just called all and it took less than 10 minutes.

You can read the bill, testimony, and see its progress through the process.  It is too late for written testimony.

So make the phone calls.  Even if it is in the evening, you can leave voice mail.

As you can see, many of the key conferees are Maui legislators.

David, per our phone conversation.

if you could urge R&D companies, esp. ones on Maui, to call the conferees of SB753 as well as the leadership on both sides.

they need to CALL (not email) in support of SB753 as the bill is currently on lifesupport
don't expect to have your calls answered. just leave a message to say
"my name is...., from company X, and pls have the legislator support SB753, as it is vital to our company and the growth of the tech sector. we are already committed to doing business in hawaii and we would like to continue to do so"

here are their names and numbers:

Leadership/money committee chairs:
Sen. President: Shan Tsutsui (Maui) 586-7344
Sen. David Ige (Ways and Means Chair): 586-6230

Speaker Calvin Say: 586-6100
Rep. Marcus Oshiro: 586-6200

Maui/Conferee member:
Sen. Rose Baker (Maui): 586-6070
Rep. Kyle Yamashita (Maui): 586-6330

Conferee Chairs:

Chair Sen. Fukunaga: 586-6890
Chair Rep. McKelvey: 586-6160
Co-Chair Rep. Choy: 586-8475

Mahalo,

Crud - Thursday April 14th.

At least on most other services (qtask) I used the calendar function to schedule it.
