Anyone up for another dinner at Flatbread in Paia?
It would be great to get a monthly/bi-monthly groove going.
How about this Thursday at 7PM?

Thanks,
Ben

I've created a Maui Google Technical Users Group for those working with Google Technologies like Android, GWT, Hosted Apps, App Engine, etc.

They've asked that I create a GoogleGroup or I'd just do the announcement here. To Join, please visit http://groups.google.com/group/maui-gtug

I regret that I missed the High Tech Maui Holiday Career Fair yesterday.
I am posting it here in the hopes that I will remember next year.

Downloaded http://code.google.com/p/namebench/ this evening and found that RoadRunner is the fastest DNS server for me. (It must be here in Hawaii).

TOR was created by the Office of Naval Research. Lots of folks trust TOR way too much. A number of researchers have gotten user names / passwords to many foreign government websites, as well as identifying info on reporters, dissidents, etc.

There exists private TOR networks that you can purchase access to that provide much better performance.

I've given up on privacy. For the time being, if you want privacy, turn off your cell phone and walk or take a bus to meet someone, make sure they do the same.

Once the NSA's new storage facility comes online in Utah, I doubt we'll ever get rid of our electronic foot prints. The best we can hope for is legislation that spells out privacy rights, data retention and annual disclosure from all entities that keep records on you. Then that legislation must become an international treaty. That's going to take a lot of work and time.

yeah. It gets tricky. You can only be so paranoid now.

I tried using TOR.
Using TOR for general surfing is painfully slow.
And anyone can set up a TOR node, business, government or worse.

I don't buy the excuse that "I don't do anything wrong, so why should I worry."
But I don't see any good alternatives.

I've been using 4.2.2.1/2 (gtei) and 207.69.188.172/171 (earthlink) with no problem. As to security/privacy questions, the whole world is in uncharted territory.

Lee - I would suggest that I suspect Google is more likely to do the "right thing" than Time Warner. On the other hand, Google is also most likely to do the "right thing" for the government as well.

We could have the privacy discussion, but I don't think this is an appropriate forum for debate.

FYI-I've switched from OpenDNS to Google. I'm happy with it.

I've been using OpenDNS for months and love it. I'm in "wait-and-see" mode with the Google solution.
