Sustainable Living / Natural Foods / Local Businesses Gift Fair
Thursday, Nov. 12 from 6:30p - 8:30p
Kihei Charter School
300 Ohukai Rd, Kihei, Maui, HI‎

I'll be there to represent The Water Boy / Mountain Slope Water (water purification system/ filtration system/ catchment system/ delivery/ bottling). Come by to say hi and check out all the other local businesses. The idea is to provide a venue for people and businesses to make early holiday gift purchases from local businesses.

I do not have full details so stay tuned for possible edification(s).

Aloha Keith: I checked out the Solvate site. How do you use their services? No info on this that I can find. There are other freelancer sites out there, anyone have experience with them?

I am sure you are enjoying Japan--lots of wonderful hiking, both urban and rural, there! Just saw the Hokusai exhibit at the Honolulu Academy of Arts over the weekend--a must for those visiting Oahu.

Hi Amber-

Thanks for posting these! Don't stop!

So bummed that we are missing some great hikes. We are in Japan and won't be back to maui until the 15th. Look forward to joining when we get back.

Please let me know if you would rather I stop posting hike info here. No offense will be taken.

Hoapili Trail (King's Hwy): Sunday (11/8) @ 9am. Meet @ Borders' parking lot in Kahului @ 8am to rideshare.

Take Kihei Road (31) going south. The pavement ends just past Makena State Park where a dirt road continues to Makena Village. Continue 5 miles through the Ahini-Kinau Natural Area Reserve to La Perouse Bay. This trail follows Maui's southern coastline from La Perouse Bay east 5.5 miles to Kanaio Beach.

Bring: good shoes, water, snacks, no shade so a hat & plenty of sunscreen & swimwear.

Hi Keith - I know several people in the group looking for work. I hope Solvate can be of assistance.

Its great to see that this group has grown to 39 members and has regular meet-ups, hikes, etc. For the first year, there was almost no activity on any of the neighbor island groups.

Mika and I are on Maui every 1-2 months, so we consider it our second home :-) We hope to catch the next hike organized by Amber.

A colleague just launched a company called
Solvate... a distributed workforce model (domestic business outsourcing) - perhaps perfect for folks looking for some extra telecommuting work... Just beware that the company is brand new so I have no idea how many clients are registered and looking for specific skill sets from "
timesmiths" - but it is still worth checking out...

================= Solvate Timesmiths™ are a select group of professionals across the country who plug in on Solvate projects according to their expertise and availability. They are executives, executive assistants, recent college grads, consultants, freelancers and techies. They come from NYU, Duke, Oberlin, Stanford, UBS, SugarCRM, Fashion Institute of Technology, Warner Bros, and hundreds of other institutions and corporations. Become a Solvate Timesmith The registration process starts here and includes interviews, a background check, references, and verification of any third-party certifications you may have. Once on board, Timesmiths receive offers on a per-project basis. Projects range from 5-minute tasks to complex, ongoing projects that require longer term commitments. Solvate compensates at a rate of $15 to $75/hour depending on the skills required. Timesmiths are independent contractors who set their own schedules and project preferences. This means you plug in on the work you are most passionate about and equipped to handle. Ready to register? Enter your email address to receive our Independent Contractor Skills and Experience form. https://www.solvate.com/timesmiths

There was a great turn out for the Malama Wao Akua art show this past Saturday. There were 140 submissions and 48 made the show (8 by keiki and 40 by adults). The pieces are displayed through Nov 10th. Crystal Jean got two pieces into the show (not part of a set or series):

Hi fellow techies. The Malama Wao Akua Art Show is this Saturday at 5p at Viewpoints Gallery in Makawao (on Baldwin Ave next to the Makawao Steakhouse). Stop by and vote for our fellow techie member, Crystal Jean Baranyk. There'll be pupus and drinks. Bring the family! Bring friends! The last time we entered the competition, they had hula dancers for the blessings.
