I think that energy consumption concerns depend on scale. For example, google has made some interesting modifications to their equipment to cut costs and reduce their carbon footprint. For inspiration, see http://www.greentelecomlive.com/2009/04/09/inside-google%E2%80%99s-...

for sure, energy costs are a major factor and even more so in Hawaii

yup, that's the one! they are definitely capitalizing on the buzz and trying to define "cloud" to the general public. Though, their commercials are always just top of mind awareness, never a call to action... so not sure what exactly they're trying to accomplish except promoting their relevance

I think one of the big challenges with hosting and data center growth is the associated energy costs. As I see it, It's difficult for many to scale, and maximize their potential because of these high costs. Especially in Hawai'i. Is that true?

IBM's up to some interesting and innovative projects. From their Green Data Center initiatives, Cloud computing, the Swiss traffic monitoring/management system, they've caught my interest.

anyone seen those IBM cloud commercials?

It's also a word customers respond to. "Cloud" computing has been around for a long time, even if it hasn't been called that.

Quote of the day by an anonymous coward: "The Cloud is just a buzz word. It makes non-techies feel clued in without having to understand the differences among a handful of technologies and how they work together."

Superb just made our Lease To Own server program open to the public - truthfully, these deals are ridiculous. You can use our calculator on the site to see just how much you can save: Own your own server! Anyways, just thought I'd share as we are one of the only hosting companies in the industry to offer this unique opportunity. Enjoy =)
