I took an hour off this evening to watch the new Hawaii Five-0. Its fun but they are trying way too hard to be Hawaiian and the dialog sounds like its written by someone who vacations in Hawaii for a week once a year. Kukui high school? Is their mascot a giant nut? "You speak da bird, huh, but you look haole to me." Who talks like that? I took an hour off this evening to watch the new Hawaii Five-0. Its fun but they are trying way too hard to be Hawaiian and the dialog sounds like its written by someone who vacations in Hawaii for a week once a year. Kukui high school? Is their mascot a giant nut? "You speak da bird, huh, but you look haole to me." Who talks like that? Instead of trying to work in as much pseudo-pidgin as possible they should hire a local writer and teach the lead actors to at least pronounce major street names properly. Lead actor Alex O'Loughlin, whose character is born and raised in Hawaii, can't pronounce Kalakaua. I'm also amused by how many people in the show refer to him as haole. I haven't been called haole as much in the past 15 years as this guy does in an average day.

Finally, why do they keep mentioning 110 degree temperature? When does it get to 110 anywhere in Hawaii? They should hire a local consultant (Ryan Ozawa?) to tell them when they are being inaccurate or just plain awkward.

Regardless of its flaws, its a fun show. I hope it does well and brings a healthy chunk of change to our economy.
"Tron Legacy" - Latest Trailertag:www.techhui.com,2010-09-02:1702911:Topic:666062010-09-02T07:53:51.056ZFrancis L. On hand for a post-screening Q & A were the director, Christopher Nolan, his Producer wife Emma Thomas, composer Hans Zimmer, cinematographer Wally Pfister, production designer Guy Dyas, casting director John Papsidera, and costume designer Jefferey Kurland.

The film? AMAZING. A mind bender that will keep you guessing blurring the line between perception and reality. An E-ticket cinematic ride that is big; in action, sound, scale of story and locale. A huge package it is that does balance out the grand strokes with moments and themes of great tenderness. What a great cast each of whom plays their parts to the hilt. Nolan does his usual best in terms of unraveling a story with his deft use of the time theme. Great film making indeed.

Nolan and the crew gave a great presentation on how things went. Not one to reveal too much, they touched on some of "How'd they do that?" aspects of the film which are quite mind-bending as well. They explained their casting choices, technical challenges with certain camera rigs, costume colors and textures to aid in the telling of the story, and musical choices.

Even after hearing these behind the scenes snippets from the film makers themselves, I want to see the movie again. Its so richly layered with action sequences, intrigue, and personal searches for meaning and love that I believe multiple viewings would only make the experience even better.

See it in a theater with the biggest screen and loudest sound system you can find. Some of you might want to wear a seatbelt for this one or just hold on
tight. The Social Network Trailertag:www.techhui.com,2010-07-15:1702911:Topic:644912010-07-15T19:38:24.345ZGus Higuerahttp://www.techhui.com/profile/GusHiguera
I love David Ficher's films. Seven and Fight Club are two of my all time favorite movies but somehow I still have doubts about this one. The guy they got to play Zuckerberg looks kinda like him. Who knows, it might be pretty good after all. The trailer doesn't look half bad.

Will a movie about Facebook done by a prominent Hollywood director and distributed by a major studio do well in the new age of social media?…

From a pure entertainment perspective, this movie was just incredible. Avatar is a true work of art, and clearly a game changer along the lines of Lord of the Rings and The Matrix. Pandora is without a doubt the most amazing rendering of an alien planet in sci-fi history. Its not just a technical feat, but I thought the use of reef-like terrestrial flora and fauna was fantastic. Of course, any movie with a hexapedal lemur automatically gets my vote :-)

The way this film seamlessly blends live action and CG is amazing. I never once lost my suspension of reality mode and thought "eck - CG" the way I have with almost all previous films in this genre. From a CG perspective, I think the most impressive feat was the realistic interaction between the Navi and their aerial mounts.

I look forward to hearing what other TechHuians thought about the movie. How to start a production company?tag:www.techhui.com,2009-06-12:1702911:Topic:443232009-06-12T21:23:49.930ZJimen Chinghttp://www.techhui.com/profile/JimenChing
