Who does E-waste recycling in Hawaii, who offers what services, who is the cheapest and who do you use ?

I heard a rumor that UH will not be doing an E-waste disposal this year. Instead, Apple is making arrangements to visit schools and pick up hardware directly at the various schools that contact them to arrange pickup. The UH website is still showing last years info as well.

If this is accurate (I still have to confirm it) this leaves many companies, organizations and the community left with a massive problem : What to do with all of the hazardous material ? Lead, Mercury, phosphorus, etc...

Ourselves included, Last year we took 110 older, busted and non working CRT's to that E-waste disposal days. In addition we took possibly about 40 computers (486, P1, P2, etc). Currently, we have a pile of roughly 90 pieces of hardware already that are dead that need disposed of. And this is without us making an effort to really identify the dead stuff. I can tell you for certain though, that we will have about 2 times more stuff this year than we had last. If UH is not taking it... what do we do ?

Same question.. what are you going to do ?

Below I invite you to list some resources for dealing with E-waste.

1) Who do you know that does Proper disposal (BASEL compliant (http://ban.org/) not shipping it out of country)
2) What are the services (pickup, drop off, etc)
3) What are the fees they typically charge.
4) Where are they located ?

Later I will compile a single page of the information and post it back.

RE USE :
If you have WORKING hardware, reuse it.. don't scrap it.
If you have computers, P4 and better that are working... We, Hawaiian Hope, can take them as a donation. We are not taking monitors and printers right now, unless they are working flat panel monitors.. We are also looking for working hard drives and other components, especially working power supplies. Contact me with your list of potential items.
