Hey all I am looking for an intermediate programmer for my latest client. They need also need to be able to manage our AWS client instances. anyone interested please email me at email@example.com
Hi Ryan - It is great to hear from you. Iʻm happy to see TechJobsHawaii.org and Hawaii Slack are going strong. re: "This is the first post here in over a year." - The newest member joined yesterday and the last post on TechHui was 10 days ago. I agree with your suggestions, but I wanted to clarify the siteʻs activity.
no job posts on techjoshawai.org - all events...sigh any other place that you know of that a programmer would got to look?
Woops! I'm really sorry, Dan! I must be looking in the wrong place. Is there an RSS feed of all activity on TechHui.com? I want to keep better track!
Thelma, I saw internships posted at TechJobsHawaii.org and thought that there was a process to submit another kind of job post. I've emailed the HTDC to see if they still run it as a job site or if they've given up the ghost.
No problem Ryan! The site has been in need of an overhaul and a new platform for a long time. The problem is its size. There are over 6,000 pages of content. Migrating it would be a full time job for weeks. On the other hand we donʻt want the community to lose the content that has been accumulating for over a decade, so we will continue to maintain it until we can find a new home for the content.
Re: RSS feed - Yes.
Thanks for the feed, Dan! Added it to my feedreader so I can keep tabs on this place. I can totally appreciate the daunting thought of an upgrade. I still run HawaiiThreads.com on forum sofware that's years old because putting it on the current version would probably nuke stuff I don't want to lose. Still, is Ning still a thing? Is there a currently maintained version you can move to? Or would you have to cross-convert to another software platform?

Yes. There was a reset of Ning (Ning 3) with a completely different codebase. If we are going to go through a migration anyway, its probably best to consider all options - Ning 3 and other community platforms.
In the current version they keep making random changes to the themes base CSS classes, which makes all derived themes, including TechHuiʻs, a complete mess.
Would the UH ICS department want to take this community forum as a potential project?
They can learn about how to properly setup a community portal and all the things involved in building out a website.
Hi Boris - I think that is a question for UH ICS :-) We don't have any contract with them, so there is nothing inhibiting a group of ICS students from building a community site or utilizing one of the many open source or commercial platforms. I think TechHui is used because we provide it for free as a public service and it's been around and stable for a long time. The challenge Ryan and I were discussing is that the platform is old, and there is a ton of content to migrate. Of course, if you are starting fresh, you don't have that problem.
