Honolulu CoderDojo

Hello, 

I am looking to start a Honolulu branch of CoderDojo (https://coderdojo.com/about/)

I first learned about CoderDojo on this podcast: http://www.codenewbie.org/podcast/teaching-kids-to-code

I am looking to connect both with families who have with kids who are interested in learning more about coding, and also people willing to help teach/mentor them.

My motivation is that my two oldest kids (ages 9 and 10) are coming along nicely learning programming and webdevelopment. They have dabbled with Codecademy (https://www.codecademy.com/), Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/), Alice (http://www.alice.org/) and a few other technologies and resources, but I think they could really benefit from some kind of community of other kids eager to learn more.

I have a potential lead for a venue, but I want to see what kind of interest there is in the community before I move forward.

CoderDojo is a global movement of free, volunteer-led,  community based programming clubs for young people. At a Dojo, young people, between 7 and 17, learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and explore technology in an informal and creative environment. In addition to learning to code attendees meet like minded people and are exposed to the possibilities of technology.

Within the CoderDojo Movement there is a focus on community, peer learning, youth mentoring and self led learning,  with an emphasis on showing how coding is a force for change in the world.
