Very true, facing our own mortality and accepting the fact that death is a something we must all face one day is something the western world is still in denial of.

<blockquote>"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"</blockquote>
Which makes me think that 'getting rid' of the pain of being a man is an easy way out. It is much more difficult to stand up to the <u>full responsibility</u> of being a Man. Hence Man has power over darkness.

<blockquote><div>It's interesting how the dark side has a message to deliver, and how whatever does not kill us makes us stronger. One's fear is one's biggest enemy. Conquering that fear, the dark has no power, but it's existence is important to balance the equation of good & evil - hence the Neverending nature of The Story :)</div>

Reminds me of a great quote, "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"

Growing up in Norway I collected a lot of classic Belgian and French comics like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaston_Lagaffe" target="_blank"><i>Gaston</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsupilami" target="_blank"><i>Marsupilami</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirou_et_Fantasio" target="_blank"><i>Spirou et Fantasio</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix" target="_blank"><i>Asterix</i></a>,…

Growing up in Norway I collected a lot of classic Belgian and French comics like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaston_Lagaffe" target="_blank"><i>Gaston</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsupilami" target="_blank"><i>Marsupilami</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirou_et_Fantasio" target="_blank"><i>Spirou et Fantasio</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix" target="_blank"><i>Asterix</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Luke" target="_blank"><i>Lucky Luke</i></a>, and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Tintin" target="_blank"><i>The Adventures of Tintin</i></a>. I had fairly complete collections of most of these comics, including quite a few rare first editions, which my parents have wellmeaningly passed along to younger cousins :-/<br />
My favorite comic creator was Belgian <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Franquin" target="_blank">Andre Franquin</a> (originator of <i>Gaston</i> and <i>Marsupilami</i>, and long time contributor to <i>Spirou et Fantasio</i>).<br />
<br />
I also read the American comics <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_(comics)" target="_blank"><i>The Phantom</i></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandrake_the_Magician" target="_blank"><i>Mandrake the Magician</i></a> (which may be the reason I am very susceptible to hypnosis ;), and the Dutch <i>Silver Arrow</i>.<br />
<br />
As a young adult living in Italy I discovered <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dylan_dog" target="_blank"><i>Dylan Dog</i></a>, an Italian horror comic series that often contained fairly surrealistic stories and drawings.<br />
I also enjoyed <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Gaiman" target="_blank">Neil Gaiman</a>'s <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandman_(Vertigo)" target="_blank"><i>The Sandman</i> series</a> (love his books too), and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Eisner" target="_blank">Will Eisner</a>'s graphic novels.
