What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

If you can only think of one thing, that's OK too.

One thing good thing about taking ICS classes at UH is being able to work in groups to complete tasks. This makes the work a lot more fun and easier to complete.

Another good thing about taking ICS classes is the ability to write your own programs, this hands on approach leaves you with a sense of great accomplishment when you finish.

Lastly, I'd say the best thing about taking ICS courses at UH is the ability to work on certain projects that could have a real impact on the world, with the possibility of being used by many different people.

1.  There are passionate professors who are very knowledgeable about their area of expertise, and share their experiences to help us better prepare for our future careers.

2.  The ICSpace creates a community perfect for all the ICS majors to gather in one place.

3.  Gerald is a great advisor.  Gives great feedback when asking for advice about how to plan out a semester.

1. Student discounts on certain software and hardware

2. Increased awareness of methods to keep information secure and avoid malware in ICS classes

3. Regular opportunities (clubs/hackathons) for collaboration on computer science projects with peers
and education about new tools and methods for increased productivity

What are three good things that the UH ICS program is providing for its students?

1. I appreciate my classes in discrete math and algorithms, because I think that the kind of knowledge taught
in these classes is truly core to computer science, and is perhaps one of the main things that distinguishes
Computer Science graduates from those who have learned programming outside of an academic institution.

2. I also appreciate the focus on professional development, in ICS 314 in particular, because I think it is
all too easy for students to spend a lot of time on their academic work and then upon graduation suddenly
realize that they are unprepared to market their skills to potential employers. I hope that for most people
getting an education in ICS can be good for more than just securing a job, but I also think that learning
job-securing skills is a valuable use of time for many people, including myself, because jobs can be helpful
in allowing one to afford food, housing, etc., especially here in Hawaii.

3. Gerald Lau is one of the best things about the ICS program. He is friendly and relatable, asks you
"What do you want to do?", and then helps you come up with a plan to achieve your goals. He is also well-known for emailing students many opportunities for jobs, internships, and community involvement. Fantastic advisor.

1. Rigorous experience that has refined my techniques at Googling

2. Having personal connections to established figures in the CS community

3. Free licensed software

I don't know. I'm in Computer Engineering.

Three good things about being a UH ICS student.

1. One of my favourite things is actually the ICS lounge. It is a great place to study. Lots of outlets, lots of tables, you can eat in there, they sell snacks and they even have a microwave. Plus it is a really good place for networking and meeting other people in your field of study.

2. Free learning resources. I'm not sure if it is actually influenced by the ICS department, but being a UH student gives you access to a lot of great Safari Books for free.

3. It could be that I am just very interested in the subjects, but it seems to me that the ICS department has done a great job of making the classes fun.

Three good things.

1. I love how much knowledge the professors have. All of the ones that I have interacted with thus far have been experts in whatever field they have been teaching.

2. The relatively lower costs of most books (for me so far anyways) compared to how much I see others having to spend.

3. The broad range of topics to explore within the ICS program.

1. Arguably the most relevant field of study available at UH.

2. You not only learn how to code, but how to think logically.

3. ICS courses generally start later than courses from other departments. Which is great if you like to stay up all night and sleep in.

Three good things about being a UH ICS student:

1. ICSpace, a great place for studying and doing homeworks and ...............................................

2. Free resource such as review site for certain courses(ICS 111,211,141,241..........)

3. Intelligente professors and TA that are friendly and willing to help

I am majoring in Computer Engineering, so I don't have a lot of experience with the ICS program. However, here are three good things UH is providing the students in the ICS Program.

1.) ICS Space. A place where students can go to meet up with classmates and TAs to work on projects together, talk story, and study. This is a great resource since it allows students to collaborate together without having to worry about finding a place to go.  Sure, there's always Starbucks, but you can't beat a nice location on campus.

2.) Great TAs. The few TAs I worked within the ICS program really know their stuff and are always open to help you out.

3.) A wide variety of classes.  Although I haven't taken the classes yet, UH offers a wide range of classes within the ICS Program. I believe it is important to have a general knowledge of all fields in Computer Science, even though it may not be your interest or focus.

Three good things about being a UH ICS student:

1) Fast growing Computer Science Field. With Computer Science being one of the fastest growing fields in the working environment today, finding a job right out of graduation should not be a challenge compared to other fields.

2) ICS 390. I'm not sure if courses like this are taught elsewhere, but I think ICS 390 gives the rare opportunity to practice communication skills in a real teaching environment as an undergraduate student. Knowing how to teach is a valuable skill that can be applied everywhere and I felt like I learned a lot. Also, taking this course improved my speaking and explanation skills.

3) ICSpace. The lounge is a great place to study, have meetings, and host events. I think the ICSpace provides a common work-space for all students and it's also a plus that the room allows food and drinks inside.
